COVID-19 Communication and Resources

Hathaway Brown has created this roundup of communication sent to members of the school community regarding the evolving COVID-19 situation, along with links to important resources for your convenience. This page will be consistently updated.

These are trying and uncertain times and we're all doing our best to navigate them. Give yourself some grace and reach out to the other members of the HB community if you need some support or a pick-me-up. Together, we will get through this and come out the other side better, stronger, and more unified than ever. In the meantime, we've assembled this information to make this time of social distancing and remote teaching and learning a little more manageable. If you have ideas for resources to share, please email kosborne@hb.edu

Technology Information for HB Community Members

Getting Technology Help
As we transition to remote learning, we recognize the need to adapt our technology support tools and procedures to this new reality. If you come across a technology issue you can not resolve on your own, please reach out to helpdesk@hb.edu. Please include details on the issue you are having, the type of device you are using (laptop, iPad, etc), and the best phone number to reach out to if necessary. Before reaching out, we encourage you to check MyHB. We created Technology Help topic blocks in MyHB for students and parents in each division.

Connectivity
Internet service providers and other software vendors are seeing record demand for their services. We will encounter moments when our Zoom or Google meetings freeze or our email refuses to send. Some of these issues will impact neighborhoods and others will impact entire regions of the country. If you encounter issues with connectivity at home, we encourage you to follow this troubleshooting guide

Device Repairs and Loaners
If your laptop or iPad requires repair, please refer to this document for instructions on how to proceed.

Chrome and myHB
If you are having problems within myHB, make sure you are using the Chrome Browser.  Whether you are using a PC, Mac, iPad or other device, we have found Chrome to be the most reliable and issue free.

General Recommendations for Parents

  • Remain calm and reassuring. Acknowledge and validate your child’s feelings.

  • Know the facts and share developmentally appropriate information with your child.

  • Limit exposure to media and social media outlets. Pay attention to and be mindful of how often you and your children are seeking updates on COVID-19. Talk about what they are hearing and correct any rumors or misinformation.

  • Establish and maintain routines as much as possible with social distancing. It’s important to keep regular routines of keeping up with online school work and getting an adequate amount of sleep.

  • Practice mindfulness. Going outside in nature for a walk or hike is helpful in getting fresh air and decreasing anxiety.

  • Empower your child by modeling and practicing positive preventive measures of good hygiene, social distancing, and nutrition.
