Your gift to the Annual Fund can be designated to one of the three main areas the Annual Fund helps support:
Faculty Attraction, Retention, Professional Development & Excellence
A walk through the halls on any given school day makes the faculty’s immeasurable and profound impact abundantly clear. Peek your head inside any classroom, lab, studio, athletic field or performance space, and you will observe HB faculty who are engaging, highly experienced teachers, scholars and experts in their fields, just as skilled at instruction as they are at encouraging and connecting with students. HB teachers are students’ mentors and role models, supporters and advocates, advisors and guides. They are the adults in a young woman’s educational life who help her explore, identify and develop her talents and passions, begin charting her own course toward personal and professional fulfillment, and help her build the skills and confidence to become an independent, creative thinker, unconstrained by preconceived notions and expectations, empowered as a game-changer to blaze her own trail.
Need-based scholarships and financial aid make it possible for some of the brightest and most talented young women to attend HB, giving them an opportunity they could not otherwise afford. The HB student body draws from more than 80 Northeast Ohio communities to create a global school community. The student body’s highly diverse, cosmopolitan character creates a learning environment and school culture that benefits students by preparing them for leadership in a multicultural and globalized society.
HB provides tuition support for more than one-third of its students, and in just the past three years, financial aid requests have increased by more than one-third, reflecting not only the challenge that many families face in affording an HB education – but also the challenge this presents to HB in drawing and maintaining the diverse student body that is among its hallmarks. All HB students benefit immeasurably from a learning environment that brings together peers and perspectives from a variety of backgrounds, both enriching the entire school community and serving as a microcosm of Northeast Ohio’s regional diversity, and the vast world beyond HB.
Curriculum & Student Programming
The HB education – from early childhood through high school – integrates current, innovative, hands-on, experiential learning methods, enabling students to take ‘deep dives’ into world cultures, scientific exploration, geography and more. HB’s interdisciplinary discovery learning model draws on the best practices of a range of educational philosophies, giving the teacher an ever-expanding educational ‘tool box’ of approaches, concepts and resources, to customize for each classroom, student and subject. This methodology reinforces the teacher’s autonomy to drive the educational process and tailor the curriculum to meet students’ needs and interests, while empowering curious young minds to ask questions, explore new ideas, connect multiple subject areas, and begin to understand how their studies apply in the ‘real world’ that awaits them.
You can also make a gift in honor of any past or current faculty or staff member. All Annual Fund gifts that do not have a specific designation go to the area of greatest need at the School.
