The Edward E. Ford Foundation is an independent foundation established in 1957 to furnish grants for independent secondary education. Grants are awarded only to those schools that hold membership in the National Association of Independent Schools. Hathaway Brown is one of the first five schools to be awarded a grant designed for the foundation's Educational Leadership initiative.
In addition to its current major program interest in neuroscience, The Esther A. & Joseph Klingenstein Fund also devotes a majority of its resources to independent school education. Major support continues through programs of the Klingenstein Center for Independent School Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. As an outgrowth of its major interests, The Fund has developed a smaller program recognizing the historic importance of the separation of church and state.
