As a recipient of an Edward E. Ford Foundation Leadership Grant, Hathaway Brown's Education Innovation Summit sought to connect great minds intent on making independent schools leaders in educational innovation. A private school with a public purpose, HB brought more than 600 educators from 110 public, private, and parochial schools in 30 U.S. states and Canada together to find ways to improve the educational environment not only in their own institutions, but in schools across the country.
And the 2010 Education Innovation Summit
was only the beginning.
With its signature Institute for 21st Century Education and Center for Educational Innovation, HB has a wealth of knowledge about trends and best practices for implementing creative solutions inside and outside the classroom. Our team is committed to being a collegial resource to schools across the country and around the world, as we believe it is morally imperative for us to find ways to improve educational offerings for all students.
All Summit presenters and attendees are invited to stay connected through a special resource-sharing section of the HB website. (Please enter your unique login credentials here to access this members-only portal.)
- All educators are invited to subscribe to Innovations, an e-newsletter filled with information and insights into this important topic. Read scholarly essays written by your colleagues and discover the latest trends and best practices in schools around the world. Designed with busy professionals in mind, Innovations is a resource for people always on the go who want to stay in the know. Please email innovation@hb.edu to indicate your interest in having this free publication delivered regularly to your inbox. Use the subject line "Innovations newsletter" and include your name, professional title, organization, city, state, and email address in the body of the message.
- At HB, we launched a program to allow faculty and administrators to bring to life their good ideas to improve our school and the community at large. The 2010-2011 Innovation Derby generated 11 project proposals from 37 people - nearly one-third of our teaching staff. We're committed to providing adequate time and resources to the teams whose plans will make the most positive and sustainable impact.
- In the last three years, we've welcomed delegations from more than 30 schools - faculty and administrators who visited our
campus to learn more about our programs and processes. We are honored to be thought of as a collegial resource in this regard. Anyone with questions about innovation in general or HB in particular is encouraged to email innovation@hb.edu.
- We are extremely interested in continuing the momentum generated by the Summit. We plan to host regular educational events for educators, parents, and students, with larger gatherings in the vein of the Summit to take place every other year. November 4-5, 2011 marked the second annual Education Innovation Summit: Sustainability Through Strength.
