About The Barry Family
Harriet Mullin Barry (1915-2001) moved with her mother and father from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Cleveland Heights in about 1926. Her father, Dr. William V. Mullin, relocated to Cleveland to be one of the first specialists (ear, nose and throat) at the recently-founded Cleveland Clinic.
Harriet Mullin Barry entered Hathaway Brown in 1926 and graduated in 1932. She retained a strong lifelong loyalty to the School and its mission. Her interest in travel was initiated with a trip to Europe with her classmates. She graduated from Wheaton College in 1936 and returned to Cleveland for the remainder of her life. Harriet Mullin Barry had three sons who graduated from University School. Her only daughter, Martha Barry Horsburgh, graduated from Hathaway Brown in 1965. Martha also was a strong and loyal alumna whose interests centered on female empowerment.
The family of Harriet Mullin Barry ’32 have supported international, multi-cultural experiences for HB students and faculty to help prepare them for the world in which they will be leaders.
