Our mission: to enhance communications between the School and the parents/guardians of HB students, to promote better understanding and greater unity within the HB community ,and to provide a means whereby the parents/guardians may participate in furthering the welfare of the School in accordance with the Administration’s mission through organizing volunteers, programs, and activities, and through raising funds for and making grants to the School.

Volunteer Opportunities

The HBPA sponsors and/or supports a full spectrum of events and activities throughout the school year for parents, students, prospective families, other members of the community. Organizing and volunteering at these events is a great way to meet, mingle, and enjoy one another's company!

In addition to room parents and committee volunteers, we are looking for people to chair or co-chair some of the committees for 2016-2017.  If you are interested, please contact Tasha Mixon

HBPA Awarded Grants


  • $20,000 to the Turf Field
  • $6,733 to the Middle and Upper School Orchestra for 55 new chairs for the Orchestra Room
  • $3,917 to HB Athletics for two new water fountains, which will allow students and athletes to easily fill their reusable water bottles
  • $2,500 to the Brian Matters Foundation
  • $10,000 toward the purchase of five tables and 40 chairs for the Atrium. This removable seating provides space for students near the Dining Hall for studying, eating lunch, conducting meetings, and hosting classroom breakouts.
  • $507 to the GROW (Girls Reaching Others Worldwide) Foundation to help strengthen the partnership GROW has with Sisterhood, an after-school program for adolescent at-risk girls in grades 5-12. These funds will support the cost of various leadership and wellness programs.
  • $500 to provide funding to bring Yale University's a capella ensemble Out of the Blue to HB. The group will work with Upper School vocal arts students and perform for Prime, Middle, and Upper School students. 
  • $1,000 for Faculty and Staff Wellness programming
  • $5,000 toward the For the Birds Garden bird sanctuary
  • $4,757 for Prime LEGO WeDo Packs
  • $5,000 for Anchee Min and Clint Smith Visiting Authors conducting workshops with Upper School students and presentations for the larger school community
  • $2,196 to offset Speech and Debate Tournament Travel
  • $1,389 for Large Muscle Room equipment used by Early Childhood students
  • $500 for start-up costs related to the Upper School Computer Science competition
  • $1,350 for the Great Lakes Theatre Festival visit scheduled for ninth-grade students in April 2017
  • $3,122 for Primary School water fountains
  • $2,250 for professional development funding related to author Debby Irving's visit to HB and time spent with faculty and staff in all divisions
  • $22,743 for speaker fees, professional development programming, student workshops, commemorative items, advertising, promotion, travel, and event expenses related to the farewell celebration program organized to honor outgoing Head of School Bill Christ and to welcome former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins to HB for an evening of camaraderie and community-building
