A proud native of Cleveland, Ohio, Toni began teaching immediately after her graduation from Washington University in St. Louis. She was hired as a Minority Faculty Fellow at Mary's Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School (St. Louis, MO), a year-long program that allowed her the privilege to teach everything from AP Economics to Pre-K story-time. She later accepted a full time position there as a seventh grade history teacher and advisor.
After the birth of her son Malik, Toni moved back to her hometown and was excited to be hired at Hathaway Brown School (Cleveland, OH). Currently in her eighth year of teaching at HB, Toni is the sixth grade history teacher, has an amazing advisor group, and is a member of the Diversity Liaison team of HB’s Center for Multicultural Affairs. Toni embraces the idea of being a lifelong learner and has had the opportunity to attend many unique professional development experiences, including the Gilder Lehrman Institute for American History, the NAIS Diversity Leadership Institute, and a two-day teacher institute at the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at the Georgetown University.
When she isn’t lesson planning or lovingly wrangling sixth grade girls, Toni and her son enjoy reading, listening (and dancing) to music, cooking, and laughing as often as possible. If you don’t catch them riding their bikes around the neighborhood then they are most like snuggled up with their two cats, Kittums and Tiny Tiger.
