M.Ed., John Carroll University
Though it may sound like a cliché, Nancy always knew she wanted to be in the classroom. From her pre-teen days of organizing summer camps for the neighborhood children to her graduate days of initiating Xavier University's first outreach summer program for underserved youth, she knew that the classroom would be her second home. After graduating from Xavier, she began her career as a first grade teacher.... with 31 students! After several years in both private and public education, Nancy took time off to raise her four children. Always interested in staying close to her profession, she stayed active as a member of her school board, volunteered in the schools and ran the CYO girls sports program. When her youngest was one year old, Nancy returned to the classroom, but this time as a student. She completed her masters degree with a certification in reading.
Nancy came to Hathaway Brown in 1994 as a fifth grade core teacher and has remained committed to girls' education ever since. She served as Dean of the Fifth grade for 15 years as well as chairman of the MS history department, where she was presented the excellence in teaching award. Before being named Director of the Middle School, Nancy was the MS Dean of Students for five years. Nancy is drawn to children; their energy, their spirit, their willingness to take on anything, and their their unbridled joy when they accomplish something they never knew was possible. This why she continues to teach a fitness academy, lead the tennis club, and join students on field trips whenever possible. Never one to stand still, Nancy loves to play tennis, golf, take daily walks, and work to keep up with the kids!
