Students in EC7 host a special Presidents Day Tea
Posted 02/17/2010 11:08AM

Throughout the month of February, the 4- and 5-year-old boys and girls in the Hathaway Brown EC7 class taught by Mary-Scott Pietrafese and Elizabeth Dreyfuss have been learning about how each person in a given community fills an important role, from students to the President of the United States.

In honor of Presidents Day, on Tuesday, February 16, the children got dressed up to sip tea and munch on cookies in the Anne Cutter Coburn Reception Room. Head of School Bill Christ was the honored guest at the function, which was designed to teach the children about how everyone's contributions to the school and to the world at large can make a real difference.

Dubbed “A Conversation with Mr. Christ," the tea party gave the children an opportunity to find out everything they wanted to know about the Head of School. Using their best manners, the young ladies and gentlemen took turns raising their hands to have their questions - which ranged from "What kind of car do you drive?" to "Who's your favorite X-Man?" - answered.

Mr. Christ explained to the boys and girls that his primary responsibility is to "help everybody at HB - all the students and teachers - become the best that they can be."

The students then described their own important jobs, talking about what they like to do in the classroom and how they spend their days. The members of the EC7 program even created a special keepsake book, “The Work We Do,” filled with pictures and notes to mark the occasion.

After they finished enjoying their treats and putting away their cups and saucers, the students and their teachers posed for a picture with Mr. Christ and presented the book to him as a gift.

Then they made their way back to the classroom for another day of hard work.
