Hathaway Brown senior named 2008 Presidential Scholar
Remarkable accomplishment to be honored in Washington, D.C.

Laney '08 has been distinguished as a Presidential Scholar, an honor bestowed on only 139 high school seniors across the country this year.

The selection committee chose her to be a member of this laudable group of students based on criteria including exceptional academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship and service at school and in the community.

Presidential Scholars were also able to invite their most inspiring and challenging teachers to accompany them to the nation's capital to receive a Teacher Recognition Award from the U.S. Department of Education. Laney selected Silvia Kenneweg, Spanish teacher and chair of the Hathaway Brown Upper School foreign language department, to join her.

Recognition ceremonies for the 2008 Presidential Scholars will take place June 21 - 24.
