Make a gift of stock using a direct transfer or by delivering certificates to HB's Office of Advancement. Stocks with an increased value and held for at least one year can have a powerful impact on HB students and are eligible for significant tax benefits. Bonds and mutual fund shares can be gifts too!

The benefits of a stock gift include: 

• a charitable income tax deduction for the full value of the stock as of the date the gift is received by HB
• no capital gains tax applied to the appreciated value of the stock if it has been held for 12 months
• immediate use of the gift by HB
• ability to provide a larger gift to HB

Donors can use their IRA to make current and/or future gifts to HB. 

Current gift

Donors who are 72 can lower the income and taxes from IRA withdrawals. The Qualified Charitable Distribution, also referred to as an IRA charitable rollover, supports HB immediately. 

Benefits of a QCD: 

• avoid taxes on transfers of up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to HB

• gifts can benefit multiple charitable organizations, but are subject to a limit of $100,000 per person

• flexibility to support the Annual Fund or direct it to another fund of interest

• may satisfy your annual required minimum distribution (RMDs are waived for 2020 tax year per the CARES Act.) 

• maximize the gift's impact because all funds go to HB tax-free

• reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions

• not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts (the 2020 tax year deduction cap was lifted by the CARES Act — donors are eligible for up to a 100 percent deduction of AGI for qualifying cash contributions)
