Dear HB Alumnae,
We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well during this challenging time. We care deeply about our entire HB community, and are thinking about the health and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and alumnae. Our school mission includes educating women of vision and courage who can rise boldly to the challenges of our times. This is certainly applicable today, as we know that each of you are courageously and boldly adjusting to changes in your lives and the lives of those around you and in our greater community. You would be proud to know that your alma mater is following suit. We are looking forward to connecting with you in person soon, and wanted to share with you information about some of our plans and programs.
Alumnae Weekend 2020 We are very hopeful that circumstances will allow us to welcome all of you back to campus a few months from now, and we are planning to gather for Alumnae Weekend at HB October 2-3, 2020. It will be a fall to remember, and a celebration that is fun, exciting, and filled with opportunities to bask in the energy of a new school year. We look forward to building upon the plans that were already in place for May and making the festivities even more special, and we are delighted to announce that HB will host the Four-School Reception on Saturday, October 3. We cannot wait to see you all there. We will share additional details and registration information soon.
Remote Learning #HBatHome, Hathaway Brown's remote learning program, launched on April 1 and will continue through at least May 1. Although we could not reconvene in person after spring break, from early childhood through twelfth grade, our students have reconvened virtually. HB faculty have created innovative lesson plans to keep students engaged and active, and they're infusing their interactions with the trademark HB style: outstanding academics delivered by the kindest and most caring professionals around. The creativity and flexibility our entire school community has displayed under these circumstances is truly impressive. The transition to remote learning has been handled by our faculty, students, and families with poise and grace. We invite you to visit the HB website for detailed information about our remote learning plans. There you will also find all of our communications and resources related to COVID-19.
Supporting HB Many of our alumnae have asked how they might help HB during this time, offering their financial support to help ease some of the challenges the school is now facing as a result of the pandemic. We are humbled and inspired by this thoughtfulness and generosity. And to be candid, your generosity could make an enormous difference as HB pivots to our remote learning model. As a result of COVID-19, HB has made additional investments in technology including software and hardware; has incurred additional costs for expanded cleaning and sanitizing efforts related to the virus; remains committed to full employment with benefits for all faculty, staff and hourly employees; and has seen an increase in the number of families in need of tuition assistance due to the economic impact of this situation.
If you are moved to do so, you can make a gift that will directly serve our students, faculty, and staff at this link. We thank you for your support.
Stay Connected We invite you to share your ideas about ways for alumnae to virtually engage with classmates, friends, and HB. You can send your thoughts to Director of Alumnae Relations Dana Capers at dcapers@hb.edu. Now is also the perfect time to follow HB's social media channels of Instagram (@hathawaybrown and @hathawaybrownalumnae), Facebook, and Twitter, and to connect with fellow alumnae on LinkedIn, Alumnifire, and through the Alumnae Book Club.
Finally, keep in touch with each other and with us. We know that connections and maintaining a sense of community and togetherness are more important now than ever, and that the value and power of the HB sisterhood will help us navigate this difficult time so that we can rise boldly and emerge stronger and more resilient.
Thank you for your support, words of wisdom, and encouraging thoughts. They have been heartwarming and inspirational. We send you our best wishes today and always.
Fondly, Dr. Fran Bisselle Head of School Dana Lovelace Capers '86 Director of Alumnae Relations |
