UPPER SCHOOL WINTER SPORTS

Basketball - The varsity basketball team has shown tremendous growth so far this season. The team is relatively young with only 2 returning starters and has been fighting hard against numerous Division I opponents. In the fourth game of the season, senior, Hanna Harlor became the fifth player in HB history to reach the 1,000 point mark, congratulations Hanna! As the Blazers head into the last third of their season they are determined to prepare for the post season as this is their first year in OHSAA Division I. The JV team is blending well as a team and has shown great improvement over the past month.
Next Game: Today, Wednesday, January 17 @ HB vs. Euclid 5:30 p.m. (JV) & 7:00 p.m. (varsity)

Swimming and Diving - The Varsity swimming and diving team has a record 4-2 in dual meets and the team placed 4th at the High School Invitational at SPIRE and 2nd at the Orange Invitational. Three varsity records have been broken to date in the 200 freestyle, 6 dive, and the 100 breaststroke. The 200 freestyle record was broken by Ellie MacPhail '21 (1:52.08). This was HB's longest standing swimming and diving record, which was held by Margo Brooks '05 set in 2003. The 100 breaststroke record was broken by Rose Gaudiani '20 (1:07.39) and Jamie Doak '19 broke her own 6 dive record (266.15).
Next meet: Thursday, January 18 @ HB vs. Berea-Midpark 6:00 p.m.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
The middle school swim team's record of 2-4-1 does not reflect the amount of hard work that the swimmers have put into the pool. The Blazers have had a number of close races and meets decided by less than 10 points. The swimmers will cap off their season this Friday at the Independent Private School League Championships at Linsly School in Wheeling, WV.

The middle school basketball team is just gearing up for the bulk of their season and have already made improvements on the court. The A team recorded their first win of the season over Laurel in mid-December and is hungry for more. The B team is in search of their first win and is sure to find it soon with the number of eager student athletes on the squad!
