PRINCETON, N.J. – Cornell women's basketball player Nia Marshall has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week, as was announced this afternoon by the conference office. It is her first career Ivy League weekly award and she becomes the first Big Red player to be the sole recipient of Rookie of the Week award since Stephanie Long on Feb. 28, 2011.

Marshall helped Cornell post a 2-1 record on the week with victories over Loyola (MD) and Drake, before falling by three points to Seattle University in the championship game of the Delta Dental Thanksgiving Tournament. Over the three games, the freshman forward averaged 12.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, with her first career double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) coming against the Bulldogs. Marshall tallied 10 points and nine rebounds against the Greyhounds and then set a personal-best with 15 points at Seattle, along with nine rebounds. She was instrumental in the Big Red's come-back against the Redhakws, helping Cornell erase an 18-point halftime deficit with 12 points and seven rebounds in the second half.

Marshall and the Big Red are back in action at home this week, as they ake on in-state rival Binghamton at Newman Arena on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., before welcoming St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m.
