Hathaway Brown and University School orchestras "celebrate music" together in Shaker Heights

The combined orchestras of Hathaway Brown and University School Upper School rehearse for the Feb. 28 concert.

The orchestras from Hathaway Brown and University School's Upper School came together Feb. 28 for the seventh annual "Celebrate Music" concert.

Each school's orchestra performed a few pieces, then they joined forces for the grand finale - the final movement of Beethoven's First Symphony.

To prepare,  HB Orchestra Director Linda Simon-Mietus visited University School to serve as a guest conductor. University School Orchestra Director Daniel Singer brought his students to HB so that both groups could rehearse together.

The program also marked the beginning of Music in the Schools Month, promoting the idea that every child should have the right to make music.
