HB was beautifully represented at both the Greater Cleveland Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Festival and the Ohio Music Education Association District 7 Solo and Ensemble Contest held recently.
INSTRUMENTALISTS
Under the direction of the MS and US Orchestra Director, Linda Simon-Mietus, the following instrumentalists participated in the Greater Cleveland Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Festival: Marta Baker '15, Abby Cho '14, Christine Espinosa '15, Sarah Fiscarelli-Mintz '15, Arielle Goldberg '13, Danielle Immerman '15, Becca Lambright '15, Dana Mietus '15, Lulu Sun '14, Rebecca Weinberger '15, and Michele Zhou '14.
Playing a series of solos and duets for outstanding judges from Northeast Ohio, these girls earned ratings of eight Superiors (distinction) and four Outstandings. Here are some of the comments the judges made on their performances:
- You're doing everything right, keep it up.
- Sweet, clear tone. Great color in your sound... A pleasure to hear you play!
- Great technique, lively interpretation, strong finish!
- Outstanding indeed! Wish I could give you higher than a one!
- Awesome job - can't wait til next yr.
- It was a pleasure - you are very talented - keep going.
VOCALISTS
HB's vocalists, under the direction of the MS and US Choral Director, Dan Call, received the following marks in the Ohio Music Education Association District 7 Solo and Ensemble Contest:
- Bravura's Ensemble received a I - Superior in Class A.
- HB Singers Ensemble received a I - Superior in Class B.
- Maggie McCormick '12 , Joey Gwinnell '14 and Riley Vance '13 all Received a I - Superior in Class A for their solos.
- Janavi Goldblum '15 received a I - Superior in Class C for her solo.
- Kayleigh Loveland '13 and Jessica Sher '14 both received II - Excellent for their solos in Class A.
Here are some of the comments the judges made on the vocalists' performances:
- You have such a gift, keep singing. You will be famous!
- Your attention to dynamic contrast really sold me today. The song had an effective and expressive quality which is seldom heard.
- Tone quality to die for!
- Bravura's Ensemble - So Musical! The dynamics and shaping were so effective, so expressive and beautifully balanced. Great diction! I wish the song were longer! Fine ensemble - congratulations!
