HB ninth grader makes important difference in a dog's life

Kate Agan takes her volunteer job at the Geauga County Dog Shelter very seriously. For months, the HB freshman has been traveling to Chardon with her mother each Saturday morning and working to help find families for the animals there.

One of Agan's major contributions to the underfunded shelter is that she records video footage of the animals and creates movies that she then posts at Petfinder.com to bring attention to the need for adoption.

Kingsley, a beautiful Husky plagued with inoperable lung cancer, seemed destined to live out his last days at the shelter. That is, until Agan made this heartwarming video of him. The story under the video read:

"After bravely going through heartworm treatment, now poor Kingsley has been diagnosed with untreatable cancer with a fast growing tumor in his lungs. He is looking for a kind person who would take him home and love and spoil him for his limited time left. He's an easy keeper and really just wants to be loved. He is a favorite with everyone at the Shelter. Kingsley always has a smile on his face--he's such a happy, happy boy. He's also quite a gentleman and prances proudly on his walks. He's also gorgeous with those wonderful blue eyes. While he deosn't play with them, Kingsley is fine with other dogs. As part of his adoption package Kingsley will be neutered and up-to-date on shots."

This week, a local family saw the footage online and were moved to visit the shelter to meet Kingsley. When they left, they brought him with them as their new pet.

Special thanks to Kate and all of the shelter volunteers who make a difference in others' lives every day.
