Project earned pair all-expenses trip to Pittsburgh.

Hathaway Brown School seniors Samantha Santoscoy of Gates Mills and Ketki Lele of Highland Heights won an all-expenses-paid trip to compete in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

The event, which took place May 13-18 in Pittsburgh, featured more than 1,500 students selected from 446 affiliate fairs in 70 countries. Jack Andraka of Crownsville, MD. won top prize for developing a new method to detect pancreatic cancer. He received the Gordon E. Moore Award and $75,000.

Santoscoy and Lele built a fully-autonomous robot that they programmed to go through the school and collect recyclables.

Two other Hathaway Brown students also competed. Sarah Forcier of Cleveland Heights conducted genetic neuroscience research at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Samantha Reeves of Concord conducted nanotechnology research at the CWRU School of Engineering.
