Children's author visiting schools; get holiday floral design, job application tips: Shaker Heights Morning links

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio –- American storyteller, author, and illustrator Patricia Polacco will visit Hathaway Brown School on Monday.

Polacco is the author of dozens of children's books, including "Chicken Sunday," "The Keeping Quilt," and "Thunder Cake."

Students will eat thunder cake –- a devil's food cake –- at lunchtime, and Polacco will meet with faculty and staff during a reception.

Parents are invited to join their children for reading sessions in the Prime Library.

Hathaway Brown is the first stop on Polacco's Northeast Ohio tour. She will also visit Laurel, Hawken, Gesu Catholic and Bryden Elementary schools, and Cleveland Schools Book Fund.

Get holiday flower arranging tips at Shaker Historical Society program

Learn holiday flower arranging tips at 2 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Shaker Historical Society and Museum, 167540 South Park Blvd.

Floral designers Margaret Ransohoff and Robin Schachat will give tips for decorating your home with flowers and plants for the holidays.

Shaker library program offers job application tips

Job seekers can learn how to make job applications that get noticed from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 6 at the Shaker Heights Public Library.
