April 26: HB for RBI Softball Invitational
Posted 04/14/2014 09:00AM

Hathaway Brown senior Logan Paul is organizing a special event that highlights her love of softball and raises funds for a good cause. The HB for RBI Softball Invitational will be held on April 26 at Parkview Softball Complex, 425 North Commons Blvd., in Mayfield Village. Varsity softball players from HB, Beachwood, Bedford, and Painseville Harvey high schools will participate. Game times are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. All proceeds benefit RBI: Reviving Baseball and Softball in Inner Cities.

The mission of RBI, as it relates to softball, is to increase participation and interest in softball among underserved youth, encourage academic participation and achievement, promote greater inclusion of minorities into the mainstream of the game, and to teach the value of teamwork.

Logan is at the helm of this softball benefit, which is being organized as a senior project through HB's Center for Business & Finance. She began raising money for the RBI program in the Spring of 2013 when she established an innovative fundraiser called “K’s for A Cause.” She wrote to family and friends and asked them to donate 50 cents for every strikeout she amassed during her high school junior season. After successfully striking out 216 batters (a school record), she raised more than $2,500.

All proceeds from the April 26th softball invitational will benefit RBI; specifically, monies will be donated to the national RBI for RBI scholarship program. Logan wanted to find a way to give back to a program that allowed to her to realize her dreams. In 2010, as a member of an 18U Cleveland RBI team, she represented her hometown at the RBI World Series in Jupiter, Fla. And earlier this year, she committed to play NCAA Division I college softball at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I.

Tickets for the HB for RBI Softball Invitational may be purchased at the gate. For more information or to make a donation, please contact Logan Paul at lpaul14@hb.edu
