Katie McCarthy of Hathaway Brown is fans' choice for cleveland.com girls golf Player of the Year

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- More than 1,400 votes were cast in the 2015 cleveland.com readers' choice poll for girls golf Player of the Year, and Hathaway Brown senior Katie McCarthy is the fans' top pick.

McCarthy garnered more than 330 votes to finish ahead of Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin senior Reva Morris (255) and Hawken senior Isabelle Joseph (244).

The poll is just for fun and will not have an impact on who is chosen as the player of the year by the cleveland.com staff after the state tournament ends.

Write in candidates included Medina's Alyssa Drehs and Walsh Jesuit's Shelby Lewis.

McCarthy shot an 81 at last week's Division I district tournament at The Legends of Massillon and failed to qualify for this week's state tournament in Columbus. Her Hathaway Brown team finished ninth overall. .

Check back next week for results from the Division I state golf tournament at Ohio State's Gray Course. Cleveland.com Girls Golfer of the Year and All-Stars will be announced the following week.
