Infant & Toddler Center

Hathaway Brown’s coed Infant and Toddler Center cares for and educates children from six weeks to two years old whose parents are school faculty and staff, alumnae or members of the broader community.

The ITC has small class sizes and a low teacher-to-student ratio that significantly exceeds state standards.

From August through June, the ITC is open Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. A half-day program for two year olds is available in the Early Childhood First Step Preschool. Families typically enroll for the entire school year. An optional summer program is available.

The ITC Experience

Learning & Growing

Student physical development and growth are enhanced through use of HB’s state-of-the-art playground, athletic facilities, and outdoor areas.

In addition, ITC students have Music and Movement class, library, and open gym weekly.

Skill Development

Experienced and well-trained teachers work one-on-one with students to practice receptive and expressive language and motor, cognitive, and social skills.

Water safety skills are taught in optional swim lessons, available at an additional cost.

Nature-Based Learning

Nature-based learning opportunities abound with HB’s on-campus Oliva Herb Garden, Doan Creek, Bird Sanctuary, and nearby Courtland Woods.

Conscious Discipline

ITC teachers use the Conscious Discipline philosophy to create a positive, self-regulating environment for children that enhances social-emotional learning.

Lunchtime

Following HB’s Food Philosophy, nutritious meals and healthy snacks are prepared for ITC students daily in the onsite kitchen.

Exploring Campus

Children explore HB’s 16-acre campus with access to a wide range of educational opportunities, including listening to the Middle and Upper School Orchestra, cheering during swimming and diving practice, and watching dancers and actors rehearse their routines.

The best way to get to know Hathaway Brown is to visit our 16-acre campus in Shaker Heights where you can walk the halls, experience our distinguished academics, and meet students and teachers. In addition to parent previews and open houses, we offer campus tours with members of the Admission team. Learn more about the Admission Process.
