The Impact of One Trusted Adult
HB has always valued the importance of developing a sense of connection and belonging in our community. Never more than over the last three years have we seen the power and impact of having a person, a go-to person, in our daily lives.
Brooklyn Raney's program, One Trusted Adult drives home the mission that every young person should have at least one trusted adult in the spaces where they spend time (school, home, religious venues, athletics). Brooklyn trains adults on how to show up in ways that are accessible, have boundaries, and show caring for young people. All people who are in spaces with youths can be trusted adults. This program refers to all adults in the space, not just educators, and gives the tools to work with youth in meaningful ways that are also authentic to each individual.
These sessions–two full workshop training sessions and a parent education zoom–have been hugely impactful. One teacher said, "This professional development is in the top of my over 20 year career." The value of what HB's faculty and staff members do each day is long-lasting.
