Kings to Thy Rising
For more than 30 years, the singing of Kings to Thy Rising as the opening song for Masterworks is an annual tradition at Hathaway Brown School. In this video, you will also see our COVID safe outside rehearsal complete with construction! We will sing through anything!
Carol of the Bells
Although most people associate this song with Christmas, this folksong was written in 1916 by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovich and titled “Shchedryk.”
The song tells the tale of a swallow flying into a household to proclaim the plentiful year that the family will have. The English Christmas lyric was then penned by composer Peter J. Wilhousky.
In the spirit of the Ukrainian folk song, we proclaim that 2021 will be full of hope, health, and happiness for all of our community and hopefully the world.
Black Is the Color of My True Love's Hair
This folk song arranged by Owen Goldsmith was our contest piece for the 2020 Ohio Music Education Association Solo and Ensemble Contest. We listened to beautiful renditions of the piece by Nina Simone and thought deeply about how a song changes its meaning depending on who is singing it. We invite you to think of all the ways that "Black is Beautiful."

Middle School Chorus
Allunde Alluia
This tender and lovely Swahili prayer is a beautiful lullaby. The words tell the story of a mother looking at her baby and asking God that when he grows up that he should be a man of honor and goodness.
Night of Silence
This beautiful partner song was written by Daniel Kantor. It ends with the classic Christmas carol, Silent Night by Franz Gruber. Its conception is a tale of longing and belonging, of hope overcoming despair, and of faith. We wish you all a safe and peaceful holiday filled with hope and love.
HB Singers
Pie Jesu
This performance of Victor Johnson's "Pie Jesu" is dedicated to those affected by COVID-19 and to the health care workers who have been heroes during this tough time. The hope is that this song brings comfort and joy to the weary and downhearted.
Hallelujah Chorus
Handel's Hallelujah Chorus is perhaps the most iconic piece of choir music ever written. It is surely a masterwork that all singers should know! Join me and stand in your living room as you listen to HB Singers and their fathers, grandfathers, friends, and HB male faculty and staff as we mark the end of 2020 and wish you all a bright and happy new 2021!
