Fifth & Sixth Grade Orff Tales Performances Part 1

Fifth & Sixth Grade Orff Tales Performances Part 1

Orff Tales is a celebration of student creativity and storytelling in the fifth and sixth grade Music and Visual Arts classes. The Middle School students tell a story through dancing, singing, acting, instrument playing, and creating visual artwork.

The name "Orff" comes from Carl Orff who founded the Orff Schulwerk approach to music education. This approach is used at HB because it values student creativity and individual artistic expression above all other objectives in the music classroom.

The 2020-2021 fifth grade Orff Tales is based on Camille Saint-Saëns "Carnival of the Animals." The students performed their own version of many of these beloved pieces of music. In this installment, they performed "Aquarium" through a student-composed dance piece. Enjoy watching our unwater dance with all of the tropical fish...we mean, students!

The 2020-2021 sixth Grade Orff Tales is about favorite fairy tales but with a twist! The students used a book of reverso poems (Mirror Mirror by Marilyn Singer and Josée Masse) to show that there are two sides to every story. Can you tell which character is telling the story in each of our dramatic vignettes?
