Class of 2025 Commencement
- Student News
On May 30, 2025, Hathaway Brown honored the Class of 2025 at the 149th annual commencement ceremony. Held in the Hathaway Brown courtyard, families, alumnae, and friends gathered to watch the procession and hear from distinguished speakers.
90 graduates walked across the courtyard as the newest members of the HB alumnae sisterhood—empowered, inspired, and ready to lead with confidence and compassion. This extraordinary class is heading to 55 colleges and universities across the United States and France, where they will continue to pursue their passions, ask bold questions, and create meaningful change.
The program began with a heartfelt reflection from Student Senate President Maggie Reef ’25, who expressed deep gratitude for the HB community as both a foundation and a launching pad for their growth. Following her, Senior Class Poet Khadija Coats captivated the audience with a moving poem. Head of School Dr. Fran Bisselle then offered a warm and inspiring welcome, honoring the Class of 2025 for their leadership, resilience, and the many ways they have embodied HB’s mission throughout their journey.
The Alumnae Scholar Prize was awarded to Clare Hess. This prestigious honor, established in 1910, recognizes the senior class member with the highest academic average throughout her Upper School years. Jane Kennedy was then presented with the Honor Girl award, an annual recognition bestowed upon the graduating senior who best embodies the Hathaway Brown ideal of character, as determined by the faculty and Upper School students.
The ceremony featured a keynote address from Michele Johnson Rogers ’75, Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Chicago Partnerships at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. A proud Blazer and lifelong learner, Michele shared a powerful message rooted in curiosity, courage, and community—hallmarks of an HB education.
We also welcomed Simone Shanise Shaw ’09, President of the Alumnae Council, who delivered the Alumnae Charge. Her message was a reminder that while this moment marks a transition, it also deepens a connection to HB, to one another, and to a community that will always be home. She officially welcomed the 90 graduates to the Hathaway Brown National Alumnae Council.
As they leave the Hathaway Brown campus, these graduates carry with them not only knowledge and experience but also the confidence to forge new paths, build community, and make meaningful change in the world around them.
Congratulations, Class of 2025.
