Class of 2023 Commencement

On June 2, 2023, Hathaway Brown honored the Class of 2023 at the 147th annual commencement ceremony. Families, alumnae and friends gathered in the courtyard to watch the procession and hear from distinguished speakers.

Student Senate President Teagan Clark gave a beautiful invocation setting the tone for the memorable event. Following this, a warm welcome from Dr. Fran Bisselle and senior remarks by Munachimso Agwa. Muna eloquently expressed the ways the Class of 2023 has, and will continue to learn for life. Muna addressed her classmates saying, “We learn for life by using our knowledge to be a force for good in this world. Class of 2023, never stop being a force for good.”

Greater Cleveland Food Bank President and CEO Kristin Warzocha addressed the students and shared her connection with HB through the Food Bank as well as “secrets” to happiness. She declared, “Ladies, you can do and be whatever you want to be – find what you are passionate about, and do it with people you like.”

Emily Wilson was awarded the Alumnae Scholar Prize. This award, established in 1910, is the oldest honor to be continuously bestowed by Hathaway Brown School. It is awarded to the member of the senior class having the highest academic average during her Upper School career.

Teagan Clark was received the Honor Girl award which is presented annually to the graduating senior who, in judgment of the faculty and Upper School students, most closely approximates the Hathaway Brown ideal of character.

After the presentation of diplomas, Vice President of the Alumnae Council Simone Billings ’09 gave the alumnae charge and officially welcomed the 97 graduates to the Hathaway Brown National Alumnae Council. It was a wonderful ceremony to launch the new trailblazers into the world, symbolically going through the long process of HB alumnae who came before them — 4,000+ strong!
