The Science Research & Engineering Program of Hathaway Brown School was established in January, 1998 with the following mission objectives:
To our prepare our students to become the next generation of leaders in science, engineering, technology, and other professional areas by fostering them in multiyear research and internship experiences;
To instill in our students the empowerment that results from completing a major project that initially seems insurmountable; an empowerment that will aide them throughout life as they face difficult tasks in any arena;
To establish strong community links with the research universities and institutions of our city, creating an awareness in our students that Cleveland has excellent cutting-edge career opportunities for them, as well as the top caliber university training needed to prepare them for these careers;
To be a model for other schools of the new and innovative structure for learning developed in the HB Science Research Program by openly sharing our methods for success with all interested schools, public or private, local or national, thus contributing to an improved educational system for the 21st century;
To prepare our students for their lives in an increasingly global community by exposing them to and fostering in them an ease of functioning in experiences at the national and international levels that are available to them through their research.
