The Crooked River Ensemble is a select, by-audition, regional Orff Schulwerk ensemble for students in Northeast Ohio currently enrolled in grades 3-6. Among children's performance ensembles, our presentation and sound is unique because all members are equally trained in vocal performance, melodic and un-tuned percussion instruments (xylophones, drums and rhythm instruments) as well as modern dance. We have a truly original presentation that some audiences have compared to a fusion of the Broadway show "Stomp" and a marimba band at a modern dance festival.
Ensemble members are some of the most vibrant musical students in our schools, as well as fantastic aesthetic movers. Our live shows are energetic and soulful, driven by the powerful compositions of Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman, as well as arrangements by Laura Webster and collaborations of the ensemble members. Original modern dance choreography by Jenny Burnett is at times lyrical and alternately crackling energy and excitement. We pride ourselves on presenting a growing list of unique original dance and music segments.
