Middle School Service Learning
- The Middle School Student Council is an elected body of students representing each Advisor Group in the Middle School. The Student Council sponsors schoolwide service projects and activities to promote school spirit and fellowship among the Middle School and service learning opportunities that impact the school and greater Cleveland community.
- Girls Reaching Others Worldwide (G.R.O.W.) is Middle School's student-run foundation that supports service learning projects in the greater Cleveland area and around the world. Each year, G.R.O.W. members conduct fund raising activities and solicit and analyze proposals. Since 2000, G.R.O.W. has raised more than $45,000 and awarded $35,000 in grants. - The Community Connections Academy links seventh and eighth graders to the city of Cleveland via educational programs and hands-on service projects. Students are exposed to pertinent social issues in Cleveland and they make site visits to local organizations including CEOGC Head Start and New Life Community. The Academy also spearheads schoolwide drives including Hurricane Katrina relief, Pretty in Pink day to benefit breast cancer research and the Giving Tree.
- The goal of Junior Gold Key, one of the largest service organizations within the Middle School, is to train and empower students to serve as effective ambassadors of Hathaway Brown. Throughout the school year, there are many opportunities for interested students to volunteer for activities such as giving Open House tours, hosting prospective students, providing child care during events for parents, participating in student panel discussions and serving as advisor buddies to new students. Our Junior Gold Key girls are important liaisons between HB and the wider Cleveland community.
