Middle School Visit Details
What you can expect when you visit Hathaway Brown Middle School
Pre-Visit: The night before your visit an HB student who’s been assigned as your hostess will call you to introduce herself and give you some specific information regarding the visit. She will inform you of her daily schedule and any special schedule, assembly, uniform changes (i.e. PE attire, dress down day, etc…) or special happenings so you are well-prepared for the day. Although you might be anxious, get some sleep because it is sure to be a fun-filled action-packed day!
Visit day: Plan to arrive in the Admission Office around 8:25am so you can meet the Admission Office staff and get settled for the day. Shortly after your arrival, your hostess will arrive to meet you and take you to her 1st period class; don’t worry, you don’t need to bring anything special for the day, as you will be given a notebook and pen to chronicle your experiences and other materials from classroom teachers, too. Once in the Middle School, your hostess will introduce you to her teachers and classmates and will arrange for another classmate to host you if she has a test or other schedule conflict. You will visit with your hostess and classmates until the end of 6th period and will return to the Admission Office at 2:15pm where you will briefly meet with Katherine Jenne Chapman '04, Director of Middle School Admission. This informal visit will give her an opportunity to hear about your visit and learn more about you. Your parents will arrive to pick you up around 2:20pm before the busyness of the carpool lines.
What to Wear
The Middle School girls wear a uniform that consists of either a white or black polo shirt with the option of a white or black cardigan/sweater and either khaki pants or a khaki colored skirt. White socks and athletic shoes with non-marking soles are final touches to the MS uniform.
You may certainly come dressed “in uniform”, but it is not required. We ask that you wear non-denim pants/skirt and a solid colored shirt/sweater with shoes of choice. (No heels, please.) If your hostess shares that you will be attending PE, you might want to bring a change of comfortable clothes and a pair of gym shoes. Also, dress according to the weather, as girls often head outdoors for Adventure Learning activities, walks around campus, or for snow sculpting contests, weather permitting!
Lunch is truly a special treat here at HB! Not only is it a time for taking a break and relaxing with your friends, it is a time to nourish your body with a variety of healthy, delicious options to energize you for all of the learning and activity that occurs throughout the school day. There is no need to bring money, as lunch is included in your visit. (Please let us know when scheduling your visit if you have any special allergies or food concerns.)
