Storyline

The Storyline method, integrating learning across all subject areas in the curriculum, employs narrative as a framework for extending theme-based learning.

This method:

  • promotes high student engagement by providing a meaningful context for learning, active student involvement and decision making, as well as joint construction of knowledge between teacher and student.
  • is child centered, provides relevance for the individual, and allows unlimited opportunities for differentiation.
  • begins with students' previous experiences, constructing and layering new understanding through the process of constructing a story.
  • uses a series of key questions that encourage research, writing, and creative problem-solving skills, as well as critical social skills to guide each unit.
  • develops lifelong learners, creative problem solvers, and team members while using many if not all of the student's intelligences.
