Hathaway Brown School faculty hail from all parts of the United States and around the world. The faculty do more than provide encouragement and set high expectations for HB students; they've invented academic designs that enable students to challenge themselves to excel, explore and discover. Kelly lives in Cleveland Heights and has been teaching at Hathaway Brown since 2008. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in Sociology and Elementary Education and went on to Providence College for her Masters in Literacy Education. She possesses an Ohio Educator License in K-5 as well as an Endorsement in Reading K-12. Kelly previously taught as a certified elementary teacher in 2nd grade and certified reading specialist (K-5) in Rhode Island and Massachusetts (2002-2008). Here at Hathaway Brown, she was a 3rd grade and 2nd grade teacher before moving into the role of K-4 Reading Specialist. Kelly serves as the Primary School’s Language Arts Department Chair as well as a mentor for Hathaway Brown new teachers and the Ohio Resident Educator Program. Her literacy background includes training in Orton Gillingham and Wilson reading approaches, Handwriting Without Tears, and Lucy Calkins Writer’s Workshop, among others. Kelly and her husband, also an educator, have two daughters at HB. They are expecting a baby boy who will join Nammy’s Place in 2016. Kelly also enjoys running, and playing and coaching soccer.
