Located in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Hathaway Brown School provides an inclusive environment that challenges girls pre-K through 12 and boys and girls in the Early Childhood Program. Founded in 1876, Hathaway Brown is committed to a fusion of academic and experiential learning.

HB Accomplishments at a Glance

In 2009, HB was named a great workplace for top talent in Northeast Ohio for the 10th consecutive year by Northcoast 99.

In 2008, the School won one of only five inaugural Edward E. Ford Foundation Leadership grants in the nation. "Hathaway Brown School is among the most potent schools for young women in the country today," noted Bob Hallett, Executive Director of the Foundation.

The Science Research and Engineering Program is a unique and nationally acclaimed elective program at Hathaway Brown in which students in grades 9-12 do original lab-based research at Case, Cleveland Clinic, NASA Glenn and other local institutions. The students' work has garnered 90 Siemens and Intel finalists or semifinalists awards since 1999, more than all other Northeast Ohio schools combined.

Thirteen students - 15 percent of the 2008-09 senior class - were named Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition, the highest number of National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists of all independent girls' day schools in the country.

In 2007, The Wall Street Journal included Hathaway Brown in a front page article about a handful of destination day schools whose excellence attracted families from other parts of the country.

In 2006, Hathaway Brown and the Bejing June First School co-founded the World Educational Alliance (WEA), a 10-nation consortium of schools from around the globe. Hathaway Brown's Center for Global Citizenship works in conjunction with these schools to promote global understanding and foster a deep appreciation for cultures of the world.

In 2005, The News Hour with Jim Lehrer focused on Hathaway Brown as a school that was revolutionizing math and science education for girls.

Since 2002, Hathaway Brown has won 11 state or Midwest championships in four different sports.

Named one the top 20 "Outstanding School Heads" Columbia University's Klingenstein Center for Leadership, Head of School Bill Christ has earned a reputation as one of the most important independent school leaders in the nation.
