Apply to be a Core Academic Teacher
Twelve Core Academic Teachers join Aspire for the summer from colleges around the country. Core Academic Teachers are responsible for implementing creative, engaging classes that support the academic needs of middle school girls.
They design, plan and teach three sections of an academic class (either in Math, Science, Language Arts, or Social Studies), and fulfill all responsibilities associated with teaching classes including selecting specific activities, lesson planning and preparation and student assessment.
In addition, Core Academic Teachers share their expertise and personal interests in afternoon workshops of their own design. These workshops broaden the exposure of our students by covering a wide range of topics not often covered in middle schools.
Students from several of the nation's leading colleges and universities, including Brown, Columbia, Denison, Harvard, Middlebury, Northwestern, Princeton, Smith, Spelman, Swarthmore, Wooster, and Yale have chosen to teach at Aspire. We encourage you to consider applying.
Teaching at Aspire, you’ll have:
- The opportunity to change the futures of a motivated, bright group of girls who may be limited in opportunity because of low family income or lack of exposure to higher education.
- Real experience in the classroom under the guidance of a talented, inspiring teacher who is willing to provide support as you learn.
- The chance to design and teach academic classes and a workshop that sparks a new passion in a middle school student.
- The opportunity to become part of a thoughtful, inspiring team, and to enjoy new friendships in a small group of experienced teachers, college and high school students
Core Academic Teachers at Aspire must secure their own housing for the summer, but we will support you with the search. Hathaway Brown School is accessible by public transportation, but routes are limited.
