HB Book Fair
The H.B. All-School Book Fair is April 14 – 17 in the Atrium   Hours:  7:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday and 7:15 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.  We hope that you will find a time to stop in and browse through some terrific books.  Loganberry Books, an independent bookstore on Larchmere, is providing hundreds of great books to us.

The girls will visit the Book Fair with their class and/or you can go with them before or after school.  In the past, we have let the girls make “Wish Lists” and bring them home to talk with you about which books that they can purchase.  Unfortunately, we have found that many times the books that they want are already sold by the time they go back.

THIS YEAR WE ARE ASKING THE GIRLS TO MAKE THEIR PURCHASES WHEN THEY ARE AT THE BOOK FAIR WITH THEIR CLASS.  We would like them to bring their money in a wallet, purse, or envelope (with their name clearly marked!)   We are encouraging the girls to talk with you about how much money they can bring and what they are allowed to buy.

Here’s the schedule:  Monday, April 14 – Grade 2; Tuesday, April 15 – Grade 1K and Grade 4; Wednesday, April 16 - Kindergarten 1 and Grade 1G; Thursday, April 17 – Kindergarten 2 and Grade 3.

Carnival
Join us for Hathaway Brown's Annual 5K Carnival Race on Sunday, April 13 at 9 a.m.  The Fun Run will begin at 10 a.m. All proceeds from this year's events will benefit the New Hope for Cambodian Children (NHCC) organization. For more information on the 5K, please contact Denise Keary at 216.320.8789.

Registration can be completed online or you may also download a form at www.hb.edu/5K. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged as it helps the registration process move quickly on race day. All pre-registrations must be received by April 10, 2014. If you plan on registering on Race Day, arrive at least 45 minutes before race time so all racers make it to the start line on time.

Summer Programs
With summer fast approaching, make sure to visit www.hb.edu/summer to see the many, varied offerings that Hathaway Brown has to offer. New this year is a Summer Storyline program running in the afternoons as part of HB’s Super Start classes, which are designed to give your daughter a jump start for the upcoming school year. Reading, writing, grammar, math, study skills, and world language courses are also available for boys and girls in grades 2-8 during the weeks of July 28-August 8. For more information about these course offerings, please contact Jason Habig at 216-320-8796 x7173 or email jhabig@hb.edu.

Holi Festival
Holi is a Hindu/Indian celebration of spring.  Here at HB, thanks to the idea of a few of our Southeast Asian students, we have used the holiday as inspiration for our own celebration of spring and diversity. Students will have the opportunity to color rangoli on the atrium floor, listen to bollywood-style music and try chai - all wonderful indulgences from the traditional Holi festivities and paths to hopefully learning more about one of the cultures that make HB such a diverse and inclusive place.

People interested in helping with the HB Holi celebration, which will take place Monday, April 7 – Friday, April 11 should contact Toni Cross, sixth grade history teacher and diversity liaison, at tcross@hb.edu.  Happy Holi!
