UPPER SCHOOL - Volume 1, Number 6

BASKETBALL

The Varsity Basketball team has a successful trip to Naples, Florida over the Holiday Break.  They finished as the Runner Up in the Naples Daily News Holiday Shootout that featured several nationally ranked teams from across the country.  After defeating Warren Easton (New Orleans, LA), Edgewater (Orlando, FL) and Whitney Young (Chicago, IL), the Blazers fell to North Gwinnett (Suwanee, GA) in the Championship game.  Seniors Nia Marshall and Vanessa Smith along with junior Beth Brzozowski were named to the All-Tournament team.

Last week, the Blazers defeated Lake Catholic by a score of 68-54 and Solon by a score of 59-55.  The game against Solon was the annual Hoops for the Cure game.  The crowd was fantastic, and the proceeds for the evening will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  Senior Stephanie Poland did a fantastic job organizing the event.

The varsity team's current record stands at 11-3.

The Junior Varsity team played two very competitive games against Lake Catholic and Solon, but fell to both opponents.  They are still looking for their first win of the season.
