Dear Ninth Grade Parents, A few people have had trouble locating a copy of the Ancient Cultures (9th grade history) summer reading book, The Girl Who Married a Lion: and Other Tales from Africa by Alexander McCall Smith, so I am writing to explain the best ways to secure a copy. The hardcover book that the department had previewed in the spring is currently showing a 1-3 month wait for delivery on Amazon. However, there are a number of other ways for you to find the book. If your daughter enjoys reading books electronically, the ebook is available at the following places: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Books-A-Million, BooksOnBoard, eBooks.com, Google eBookstore, Diesel eBook Store, iBookstore, Kobo, Powells, and Reader Store for Sony. The e-version (as well as the hardcover version) can also be checked out through CLEVNET, the Northeast Ohio consortium of libraries. There is a paperback version of the book available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Girl-Married-Alexander-McCall-Smith/dp/1841957291/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1340651770&sr=1-2&keywords=the+girl+who+married+a+lion There also are numerous opportunities to purchase a used copy of the book on the internet. Because we recently found out that the paperback version of the book is shorter than the hardcover and e-versions of the book, the requirement is that students read at least these 17 folktales: A Bad Way to Treat Friends Hare Fools the Baboons Sister of Bones Beware of Friends You Cannot Trust Brave Hunter Stone Hare A Tree to Sing to A Blind Man Catches a Bird Hare Fools Lion – Again Strange Animal The Sad Story of Tortoise and Snail An Old Man Who Saved Some Ungrateful People Great Snake The Girl Who Married a Lion Greater than Lion Two Friends Who Met for Dinner Tremendously Clever Tricks Are Played, But to Limited Effect If you have any questions, please email Ali Day at aday@hb.edu. |
