UPPER SCHOOL FALL SPORTS

The fall athletic season has been in full gear for a little over a month. Thorughout the season, our teams will practice good sportsmanship, teamwork and ethical behavior which are the overarching values of Blazer Athletics. Win or lose, we support and appreciate the contributions that our student-athletes and coaches make to the life of Hathaway Brown.

Cross Country - Placed first in George Clements Invite and  placed 4th in Division ll/lll in Dave Clegg Invitational. Caroline Millican set a new school record (18:42) at the Dave Clegg Invite, congratulations! Next meet: Saturday, September 10 @ Hedges Boyer Park (Tiffin, OH)

Field Hockey - The varsity team is 3-0 with wins over Laurel (8-0), Orange (9-0) and North Allegheny (3-0). The JV team has had success as well and has a record of 1-0-1. Next Game: Saturday, September 10 vs. Ottawa Hills @ HB JV 12:00 p.m. & Varsity 1:15 p.m.

Golf- The golf team is also off to a strong start with wins over Walsh, and Padua and they won the Midwestern Girls Golf Classic with a team score of 345. Sonum Jagetia ('18) received 5th place and Alex Stahler ('17) received 6th place at the tournament. Four members of the team have already shot one or more birdies this season! Next Match: Wednesday, September, 14 vs. St. Joseph Academy & Laurel @ Shaker Country Club 4:15 p.m.

Soccer -  After graduating a number of seniors last season the soccer team has managed to stay strong! They have a record of 3-2 with great wins over Kenston (4-1), Padua (4-0) and Geneva (5-0). The JV team has been working hard to improve their game as a team and have had very competitive contest. Next Game: Saturday, September 10 vs. Bay Village @ Ursuline College V 4:00 p.m. & JV 5:30 p.m.

Tennis - The defending state champions (varsity A) have had an expressive start to their season with a current record of 8-0 and received first place in both doubles tournaments that they played in! The varsity B team joined a higher league division this year with great competition. The team is doing well and improving every match. The JV team has had some impressive wins this season and continues to work hard. Next Matches: Varsity A Friday, September 9 vs. Beachwood @ HB 4:30 p.m., Varsity B Thursday, September 8 @ Gilmour 4:30 p.m., JV Thursday, September 8 vs. Beachwood @ HB 4:00 p.m. 

Volleyball - Under first year head coach Michael Jackson, the volleyball team has had a great start to their season. They have a dual match record of 3-4 with wins over Madison, Springfield, and Cleveland Heights. The JV team has also started off well with a record 2-2!

IMPORTANT ITEMS

  • Middle School Fall Sports Photos & All (fall, winter, & spring) Senior Athlete Photos (make-up) - Friday, September 9 @ 3:30 p.m. 
  • Light the Night (varsity & JV athletes will be recognized) - Friday, September 16 @ HB, athletes will be recognized at 6:45 p.m. 
  • Homecoming Games - Saturday, September 17 @ HB, a schedule of games can be found on the athletics web page. You can also find any team's schedule by going to www.hb.edu/athletics and clicking teams & schedules on the left side of the screen
  • Each high school team will have a chance to meet with nutritionist, Amy Petonic Jameison during the month of September to discuss and learn more about the importance of fueling an athletes body for success. Sport specific nutrition information will be posted on the athletics webpage under resources by Monday, September 12, 2016. 
MIDDLE SCHOOL 
Middle school atletics are about 3 weeks into their season and are working hard to get ready for their first few games. There is a lot of young talent that Blazer Nation is thrilled to see out on the fields, courts, and courses. Full schedules for each middle school team can also be found at www.hb.edu/athletics.
