Northeast Credit Union Athlete of the Week - Scanlon & Stauber

Doesn't matter if it was played on turf or on grass, the Big Green excelled this past week. Junior Gabe Stauber has returned from injury with a vengeance to lead the men's soccer team. Senior Maggie Scanlon had two game-winning goals to lead the field hockey team to a 2-1 record for the week.

Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week.

Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Gabe Stauber (Waccabuc, N.Y.), Jr., MF, Men's Soccer

Dartmouth men's soccer junior Gabe Stauber scored the game-winning goal for the Big Green on Saturday to propel them over Albany, 2-1. Stauber, sidelined by injuries for the better part of two seasons, has emerged as a top offensive threat this season for first-year head coach Chad Riley. Earlier this season, the midfielder was named the Offensive MVP of the South Carolina Tournament for his performance in the win over Kentucky.

Maggie Scanlon (Shaker Heights, Ohio.), Sr., MF, Field Hockey

Scanlon scored in all three Dartmouth games last week and finished with seven points. In consecutive contests at Brown and Holy Cross on Friday and Saturday afternoons, the senior from Shaker Heights, Ohio, scored the game-winning goal for the Big Green. Against Brown, Scanlon found the back of the cage in the 69th minute to break a 3-3 tie and help Dartmouth to its first Ivy League win of the season. The following afternoon in Worcester, Scanlon assisted on the first goal of the afternoon and then notched her fourth of the season in the waning moments of the first half. That marker not only tied her career high, but also pushed the Green back on top, 2-1, setting up for an offensive outburst in the second frame that culminated in a 6-1 win.
